Meeting Minutes 3/14

• We have a new vacuum! Woooo
• Jeff is contacting the garden club/Juniper mushroomers to get rid of coffee grounds
• Sam paid $20 to WordPress for more bandwith
• BMedia Collective still wants to do something here

o   We want to ask them for a brief-er workshop than they normally offer

o   Maybe show a few films they made

o   Penelope will be in contact with them

• Tim Howe is designing the new logo for the Rusty Nail

o   Lizi is working with him to finalize the design

o   Hopefully presented by DIY

• April 6 there is a Workers March with Climate Justice Coalition and Rising Tide – Contact Katie if you are interested in getting involved

Jason Feiner was in the house! Answering our questions…

• Coffee Cart:

o   Base out of Howard Counter is a good idea

o   We should contact/track down keys for the cabinets because they are lockable

o   Wants us to consider what is realistic and what is going to be durable and last for years when making decisions

o   Outdoor storage would be best

o   Remember sanitation and cleaning – important to keep a schedule of this

o   We should set up a high standard of service, maintenance, etc from the get-go

o   Payment of students will probably have to be done through the school (student employment) and we should start working on this soon

Jason will be a conduit for us as a group to learn how to navigate the bureaucracy that is LC

• Other stuff:

o   He has theatre lights!  We should remind him and take up the task of having them installed by facilities

o   Looking for a projector for us

o   We should try again for more tables at facilities

o   Sign/menu should be hung by facilities when its ready

• Reservations for events are important because the school tracks venue usage, and it will be to our advantage to have our parties counted so they will fund us in the future

o   Reminder: Katie is contact for events people – tell her if you need something sent to events

• Budgeting/Reimbursements

o   Jason is working on a new credit card system for clubs called “P-Cards” which will allow us to spend money, track it, and set up accounts with vendors

• We should make use of Bon Appetite’s buying power for things in bulk that we cant get elsewhere but they are buying anyway
• Member Retention:

o   We should/are going to include money in the budget for satisfying our members : food, treats, parties, etc

o   We need to feed and water them to keep em happy

o   Member celebration…?

o   Student money people will see this as a valid cost

4) Jeff wants everyone to spread the word about the Bee Media
Collective: a group of good people teaching people how to spread
messages through low cost media. (correct this if it’s wrong).
5) Sarah, Claire, Amelia, Penelope are working on the DIY Bazaar on
Feb. 17th. Theme: Pizza/Kickball Party. Will start at 5 PM. We will be
in touch with Natalie about advertisement.
6) Sarah is brainstorming dumpstering ideas and expanding the menu a
bit. Bananas from New Seasons?
7) Zein booked shows for March 13th and April 6th. Zein, let us know
who is playing and what conversation you have had with the bands.
Sarah will talk to Sam Kellogg about being a technology
coordinator.
9) Natalie is working on a co-op zine. It will include menu items,
maps to get to the co-op, get to know your coordinator section, bulk
food recipes, and featuring the new zine on the cover.
10) Budget business: each coordinator should try to predict how much
they want to spend this semester. We have about $1660 as of now.
11) Danny made bulk laundry detergent. $ .25 a cup. Lez sell that
shtuff.
12) We were not charged for publicity stuff from last semester.
Natalie will get on that… maybe.
13) Coffee ratios are on measuring cups! Let members know that.

trained!
15) Katie went crazy with the bible. use it. abuse it (not really).
16) Julia Huggins is getting involved with food task force. Talk to
her about food cart stuff or anything else of interest. Contact:

18) Should we switch to Stumptown? Bookstore has stumptown coffee now
and maybe we can join forces and get our coffee delivered. Plus,
Stumptown invited us to a “cupping”.
19) Penelope spoke with the editor of Polygot, who wants to host a
writing/ photograph showing night at the Co-op.
20) Claire will facilitate next weeks meeting. She will sort our stack
according to relevance of topic and post it by Fritag so that we can
all look it over this weekend. Also, next week, let’s divide into
Events and Coffeeshop crews.
21) Everyone should email Natalie their BEST photo of themselves for
the Co-op zine.
22) We should work on buying things from local distributers.
23) Sell bowls of granola? With homemade granola (maybe)?
24) In the near future, we should continue discussion about expanding
menu, as well as decide on prices. In our agreement with the Bon, we
can distribute ingredients, but me can’t prepare food because we lack
an industrial kitchen.

26) We will work on getting more seating in here. Let’s make it more
coffee shop-ish.

-we should create a subcommittee for this project… and perhaps a new coordinator position

-we should be as sustainable as possible – “mug library”suggested by bagel for people to reuse cups = or they have to bring their own

Brief minutes from the All-Member meeting 11/7 (I think Jeff and Lizzy may have additional notes or more detail about some of these things) (the -> are extensions that ran through my mind about some of these ideas.)

It may be a swell ideary to debrief this all and form some tackle tactics to make these projects happen in a decent way. lets do this at the next meeting? I’ll start a stack after this email.

- vision: welcome all campus goers with all diff. projects/ideas

- keep updated message board -> make more accessable/encourage members to contribute

• Could Kaj work with someone else to ease back into the position of membership coordinator?  It’s absolutely imperative that we reenergize the co-op membership base.

Minutes~ September 30, 2010

– zine: release at the end of October in time for Love Your Body Week.
– We’ll have boxes at DSAs, Howard, the Womyn’s Center, Platteau,
co-op, library
– weekly featured zine/reviews—>write recommendations
– mice situation- cotton balls are out and about…we’ve still got ‘em,
maybe? steel wool isn’t in the holes yet, so we’ll wait for a mousefriend
sighting and plug up the holes after that! we should line the drawers with
peppermint oil and continue keeping bread in the fridge
– Budget- we need to revise the proposed budget outline from last year.
We have $1700 plus $500 for critical blast. Amelia and Bagel will get
together to discuss the proposed budget and then we’ll all talk about it
together. next meeting- number one thing on this agenda is music!
– Paying bands?
– potentially pay each band that played the first DIY bazaar $30 if we
figure out the budget
– music used to have a bigger budget
– develop a system for paying bands, particularly if they’re
travelling
– the current proposed budget has $300-$400 for music
– DIY Bazaar- how it went down
– music should start earlier/on time because people who came left when
it got dark. Hold them from 7:00-10:00 from hereon out, perhaps?
– Music and DIY can overlap- schedule quiet bands earlier
– make sure we have enough supplies before we start, especially
condiments, lettuce and tomatoes

– coordinators will each bring a dish, we’ll invite food-related
clubs and publicize that bazaars are also potlucks
– overall consensus about the first bazaar- it was successful, the
music was not. the bands we asked to say are big in portland,
but lewis and
clark students want something different. we should have more
varieties/genres, bands from LC
– up the publicity and make sure the atmosphere is good.
– Computer- Natalie will ask the Womyn’s center about their extra

– Logbook for workers- Maya has the excel sheet/price/buying list
prepared and will print it; there’s now a tiny suggestion book next to the
